Summary
The paper elaborates the notion of Chaos Theory and it makes a compelling argument about the presence of Strange Attractors and chaotic (i.e. complex) behaviors in several political area:
- Public organizations
- Peace
- Elections
- Political violence
The study also provides mathematical models and examples on how to incorporate chaotic behaviors in political analysis. These models are based on Henon map and Jacobian model.
Relevance for Complex Systems Knowledge
This publication presents one practical example of how mathematical models can be used to assess chaotic and complex behaviors in political situations. It also provides more convincing examples of how much chaos is involved in the analysis of politics. From the multidisciplinary perspective, it provides a good example of collaboration between political, historical and mathematical analysis.
Point of Strength
- It has a strong scientific background;
- It elaborates insights from multiple disciplines (mathematics, politics and history)
- It provides a good summary of Chaos Theory
