Description of the Interactive Tool
The online game is dedicated to enhance the awareness about natural disasters, such as tsunami, hurricane, wildfire, earthquake and flood. The objective of the game is to plan the environment in order to save lives, that is, to build new hospitals, schools and other facilities, to upgrade houses and provide defenses for the inevitable disaster. There are three difficulty levels for each scenario based on the geographical region. It is a single-player game but can be employed as a tool to discuss various scenarios and compare results of different decisions. Although the core audience of the game is children up to 16, the game can be used as a tool to discuss the strategies in preparation for natural disasters and risks in business management.
Points of Strength
The regional reference to the environment enables students to relate their experience to the simulation. Moreover, the player has to make the appropriate decisions under a limited budget and therefore to adjust the environment to achieve the game objectives.
