Description of the Interactive Tool
C-ROADS is a free, award-winning computer simulator that helps people understand the long-term climate impacts of national and regional greenhouse gas emission reductions at the global level. The name C-ROADS stands for “Climate Rapid Overview and Decision Support” simulator. It has been developed by Climate Interactive, MIT, Ventana Systems, and UML Climate Change Initiative, for simple climate policy tests, interactive presentations, and for the role-play exercise—the World Climate Simulation. It offers global, 3-region, and 6-region modes in order to test national and regional emission reduction policies. It contains multi graphs and simulates the result on the average global temperature at 2100 by changes at the greenhouse gas emissions, the amount of deforestation and the land used to plant forest.
Teachers could incorporate the simulation into environmental chemistry courses that concern sustainability and climate change issues at the undergraduate level.
Points of Strength
The simulation is free of charge. It is easy to learn and can be presented during lectures.
