Description of the Curriculum/Course

Admission Requirements
B. Sc. Degree preferably in one of the following areas: Economics, Management, Natural Science and Engineering.
Good Knowledge of either English, French or German
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge: Main bioeconomic principles and resources, Interactions between the bio-environment and the economic system, Principles of economics of innovation and sustainability in different sectors (eg. food, energy, shipping and tourism)
Skills: conduction of financial analysis and set up of business plans based on the principles of sustainable development, application of novel regulatory frameworks and sustainable business practices, writing of sustainability reports
Competences: interdisciplinary-holistic thinking, analytical thinking, strategic planning and organization, decision making, teamwork, adaptation to change
Programme
The curriculum includes the following 6 obligatory courses:
1. Introduction to Bioeconomy, Circular Economy and Sustainable Development
2. The Economics of Innovation and Sustainable Development
3. Financial Analysis and Risk Management
4. Biological Resources and Bioproducts
5. Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Business Plans
6. Theory and Practice in Industrial Biotechnology
In addition the curriculum includes the following 9 elective courses, of which the students need to select 3.
1. Investment and Inventory Management
2. The Economics of Natural Resources and Energy
3. Sustainable Development in Tourism & Regional Management
4. Shipping and Sustainable Development
5. Bioeconomy & Circular Economy in Food and Energy
6. Current Finance Themes in Energy
7. Regulatory Framework and International Strategies
8. Sustainability Reports and Business Practice
9. Integrated Bioproduct Systems
Finally, the curriculum includes the obligatory Master’s Thesis

The curriculum aims to develop the abilities of students to analyze, delimit and assess the complex economic needs of modern societies with an interdisciplinary approach, in order to achieve sustainable economic development. The curriculum contains courses of both technical as well as more theoretical nature and is addressed to students of different academic backgrounds.
