Teaching sustainability as complex systems approach: a sustainable development goals workshop

Description of the Course Material
This article promotes the approach of a complex systems view in addressing problems in sustainability via network science and delivers an outline method for an interdisciplinary training workshop focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The authors introduce the article by detailing the necessity of multidisciplinary, critical and systems thinking in the field of sustainability education.
The most relevant section for extracting a teaching tool is under heading 3.2 Workshop content. The set up and process of the classroom workshop is broken down into the necessary sections. Under Figure 2, the authors provide an example of workshop outcomes through the process of identifying connections between the 17 SDGs.
Section 4. Reflection provides details on discussion points raised by students and some issues that were met. This may be a valuable section for lecturers to prepare for the probable need to resolve issues or questions that arise.
