Summary
The research presented in this article is focused on the evolution of AI Techno-Economic Segment (TES). TES is defined as a complex system composed of agents active in AI-related activities, such as industrial, R&D, patent applications, scientific publications. The research aims to answer questions about the TES agents, their activities, interactions, results, and products. The authors present a methodological approach for the analysis. The approach is based on the analysis of graph database, semantic analysis to detect agents’ involvement in knowledge subdomains, network analysis to investigate technological collaborations. Then the data collection procedure and analysis of the results from the perspectives of location, agent type, and dynamic of collaborations are provided. Such analysis makes it easier to understand the structure of the system and to take more effective steps in future.
Relevance for Complex Systems Knowledge
The authors provide a review on the artificial intelligence (AI) techno-economic segment as a complex system in a timely manner by the means of interacting agents (firms, research centers, governmental and academical institution). The authors analyze the industrial and R&D activities, patent applications, publications in the related research domains of the agents in different geographic locations. The AI technology was chosen as a study object due to its disruptive and transformative potential, intense progress in evolution, non-standardized classification of subdomains and their interdisciplinarity, and the dynamic collaborative network between the institutions in patents and publications. This article helps to identify essential information for future policy interventions and to better understand the structure of AI in techno-economic segment.
Point of Strength
The strength of this article is a provided methodological framework which enables to consider fundamental aspects of artificial intelligence (AI) in techno-economic segment as a complex system.
