Summary
A review on augmented reality (AR) and mobile-learning (m-learning) topics in the journals and conference proceedings published in the Web of Science repository is presented in this article. The article aims to clarify the expectations of applying augmented reality in the context of m-learning. The analysis included more than 25K instances. The authors provide the statistics of the analyzed material with respect to type of document (article, review, summary, etc.) and keywords used in the search. The set of the documents is also analyzed by taking onto account content layers, that is, the statistics of the documents by the area, such as, conceptualization and typology, methodology, factors of use and ludic-motivational dimension, spatial delocalization, educational subjects for AR implementation. The authors state that there is a need for theoretical and conceptual frameworks of AR application in education to correspond to the technical advances and the methodological change.
Relevance for Complex Systems Knowledge
The augmented reality tools can highly increase the quality of mobile learning. The application of augmented reality in educational includes but is not limited to technology and medicine (human simulators), engineering, virtual laboratories, language learning. The application of augmented reality encourages students to experiment due to the better access of information due to rewarding interaction. Mobile learning with the application of augmented reality tools enhance creativity, self-control, that is, the skills which are essential in complex problem solving.
Point of Strength
The strength of this article is a provided analysis of studies in changes of mobile learning due to augmented reality as it enables to simulate real-like experience to students.
