Summary
In this fundamental book, Morin, sociologist, rebels against the narrow disciplinary limits of the fields of social sciences, claiming that sociology cannot suffice to gain understanding of human societies. Contrary to the anthropological vision that separates man from animals, contrary to the opposition between nature and culture, Morin casts light on the many “births” of mankind, seen from a biological as well as anthropological perspective.
Relevance for Complex Systems Knowledge
Once again, challenging the view of man as mere technician and producer of rationality, Morin links humanity to chaos and complexity, in its role as creator of myth, magic, and disorder.
Point of Strength
The theory the author proposed is therefore an “open” theory on human nature, based on the idea of self-organization common to all living and emergent organisms.
