Description of the Interactive Tool
The SimSE is an open source interactive simulation game to improve skills in software engineering management. The game simulates the processes that happen during software development phase. The player is positioned as a project manager for team of developers. The objective of the game is to complete a particular part of the software engineering project and ensure that it incorporates into the complex software system. The management activities include team organization, budget planning and administration, control of the assigned tasks, etc. The simulation involves random unexpected events which lead to critical decision making, risk management issues and realistic experience.
The description of the tool is provided in:
Navarro, Emily Oh, and André van der Hoek. "SIMSE: An Interactive Simulation Game for Software Engineering Education." CATE. Vol. 1. 2004.
Points of Strength
The SimSE enables students to try various scenarios in software engineering field and experiment with different approaches and analyze the consequences of the decisions made during the game.
