Description of the Interactive Tool
This teaching tool is a guide to framing, modelling, and acting on sustainable development issues highlighted in the news. Students are placed into groups and tasked with researching recent news articles that deal with sustainable development.

The exercise is broken down into five steps.
These include;
- Finding a news item within the bounds of the 17 SDGs
- Framing the problem by answering what is changing? & How is it changing?
- Telling the story by answering what variables may contribute to the problem? & What has been increasing or decreasing over the same period
- Drawing the system by using a six-step connection circle
- Looking for leverage
Points of Strength
The tool engages students with real world examples of systems thinking in sustainable development.
